Student Spotlight

Name: Brennan Ponder
Hometown: Whitewright, TX
Major: Criminal Justice and Forensic Psychology
Expected Graduation: May 2026
Who is your primary source of academic support?
Faculty
Based on you experiences what advice would you give to other first-gen students?
To ask for help when needed!! The professors are accommodating with many things and are willing to help you if you just ask for it. Making them aware of situations at home also helps, for instance my dad was on hospice and I let them know at the start of the semester so when he passed away last week they were more helpful with me and my work.
Describe significant experiences as a first-gen college student: Taking my first actual college tests, definitely didn’t do the greatest but it helped me to know what exactly I needed to know to study for the next one and how it all worked
